About the PTA
What is the PTA?
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association. Created over 100 years ago, the PTA is a powerful voice for children, a resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education. Many of the benefits our children receive today, such as universal kindergarten and the National School Lunch Program were accomplished as a result of the PTA mission.
Why join North Side’s PTA?
It benefits your child. Research shows that children who have parents/guardians who are actively involved in their education have higher self-esteem and do better in school. It’s also a great way to:
· Make a difference! You can share ideas and influence change that will benefit your student.
· Get connected and find out what’s happening at school.
· Meet new people, make friends and get to know the North Side community.
· Strengthen the voice that speaks on behalf of our children at the state and national level.
Who can join?
Anyone! The PTA is an organization of parents and guardians, aunts, uncles, grandparents, teachers and anyone else who would like to make a difference in our community. The more people who join and become actively involved, the stronger the PTA becomes and the more we can accomplish for the greater good of North Side. Last year, our children were able to experience many educational programs and fun activities because of the PTA’s involvement and contributions:
· Fieldtrips to Indian Echo Caverns, State Capital, Whitaker Center and The Forum
· Brain Show Assembly
· Smart Boards in seven classrooms
· Super Readers
· Reflections, an Arts in Education Program
· Science Fair
· Bingo Nights and Skating Parties
· Talent Show
· June Jubilee
Do I have to be a member to volunteer?
Absolutely not! We welcome all volunteers!
Do I have to be a member to attend a PTA meeting?
As always, everyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to be a PTA member. However, if you are interested in voting on issues, approving official PTA documents or becoming a committee chair, an individual is required to be a member. To become a member, click here for the form.
What is discussed at PTA meetings?
The North Side PTA meets multiple times throughout the year to discuss things such as social and educational events, programs, volunteer needs, fundraising, and how to add value to the school. During each meeting, the secretary records what is discussed. This information is then shared with our families and staff.
How I can I become a member?
A Membership form is always sent home with your child at the beginning of each school year. Return it to your student's teacher with payment. We will be happy to have you!
